Dr. Marcia A. Harris

Dr. Marcia A. Harris is a dedicated physician, lecturer, and motivational speaker whose passion is to challenge and empower individuals and groups to realize their highest potential. A board certified obstetrician/gynecologist, Dr. Harris has extensive expertise in women’s health, and health promotion and education.

 Born in the West Indies, she vowed at an early age to become a surgeon after her mother died while giving birth to her brother.  Dr. Harris graduated from Glenmuir High School in May Pen, Jamaica at the age of 14, and migrated to the United States. She earned a B.Sc. in Chemistry from Pace University, New York in 1970. After working at Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center for a year, she then earned her M.D. degree from Columbia University College of Physicians and Surgeons in 1975. She completed an internship in Internal Medicine at Harlem Hospital Center, and a residency in obstetrics and gynecology at Weill Cornell Medical Center.

 Since that time, she has been in private practice in Manhattan, New York. Her professional interests include women’s health, and hormone replacement for women and men using bio-identical hormones.  She also runs a clinic for the non-surgical treatment of back pain from her Manhattan office.  Dr. Harris holds an academic appointment at Cornell University Medical College, and received an honorary Doctor of Humane Letters (Honoris Causa) from Pace University in 1993.

 Over the years, Dr. Harris has mentored youth in many capacities including running a summer program at Cornell University Medical College for minority pre-medical students from throughout America.  She lectures frequently to organizations, associations, and groups on health, self-esteem, and motivational issues.  She is a member of the Les Brown Speakers’ Bureau.

 Dr. Harris is the devoted mother of two lovely children, Dana Marie, a 2002 graduate of Goiuzetta Business School at Emory University in Atlanta, Georgia  and Michael George, a college senior at Oakwood College in Huntsville, Alabama.   She is a talented musician, both vocal and instrumental and sings with a gospel choir in New Jersey, where she resides.  She is an avid reader, writes poetry and prose, and is currently publishing two new books, ‘Metamorphosis’ and ‘Sister Friends’.

 Dr. Harris firmly believes that God has a distinct purpose for each individual, and encourages each person to realize this purpose.  Her personal motto is:  If better is possible, good is not enough.
